ZE sweeps at the Maple City Glen Lake Tri

Varsity vs Petoskey High School (6 - 3) Win Zeeland East (4-0-1) defeated Petoskey (0-1) by a 6-3 score on August 19th, leaning on a doubles sweep to secure the dual meet. Petoskey took three singles matches, but Zeeland East answered by winning every doubles flight to put the meet away. At No. 1 singles, Petoskey’s Liam Washington was sharp in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Daniel Steenwyk. Jackson Wong followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles, and Finn Clarke added a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 3 singles to give Petoskey an early cushion. Zeeland East started its comeback at No. 4 singles, where Oliver Reese beat Jack Dumas 6-1. From there, the Eagles dominated the doubles courts, with Jacob Guerriero and Luke Hathaway setting the tone at No. 1 doubles in a 6-1, 6-1 win and the remaining pairs all winning in straight sets. Zeeland East’s depth across the doubles lineup helped the team move to 4-0-1 on the season. Varsity vs Glen Lake Community Schools (5 - 4) Win Zeeland East (3-0-1) defeated Maple City Glen Lake (0-2-2) by a 5-4 score on August 19th, surviving a back-and-forth varsity dual that came down to the final matches. Glen Lake took the top three singles courts, but Zeeland East answered with four of the five doubles points to pull out the win. At No. 4 singles, Oliver Reese (3-1) gave Zeeland East its first singles point with a 7-6 (3), 6-1 victory over Levi Lamb (3-1), hanging on in the opening set before taking control. Zeeland East also picked up a key point at No. 1 doubles, where Jacob Guerriero and Luke Hathaway recovered from a 2-6 opening set to beat Elliot MacTavish and Keegan Bridges 2-6, 6-2. The clinching momentum kept building in doubles, including a retirement win at No. 3 doubles for Lukas Hafeman (4-0) and Pierson Kolean (4-0) over Brodie McKeller (0-4) and Garrett Bridger (1-4) after Zeeland East had already established command. Ben Slotman and Max Lewis added a straight-set win at No. 4 doubles, and Carson Van Dyke and Dylan Mishler closed the day with a 6-0, 6-2 sweep at No. 5. The victory moved Zeeland East to 3-0-1 on the season.
