In game one of the Martin E. Ball West Ottawa Tournament, Zeeland East was defeated by Traverse City West 3-1. Traverse City scored one run in each of the first three innings to take an early lead. Zeeland East answered back in the fourth with a run of their own when Stephen Nelson scored on a Michael Zeerip RBI single. Zeeland East could not get any closer, leaving 7 runners stranded in scoring position during the game.
Ethan Houghtaling takes the loss on the mound, while Micahel Zeerip pitched great in relief. Offensively the Chix only tallied 3 hits in the game.
Traverse City West went on to defeat Byron Center and West Ottawa to win the championship while Zeeland East played Traverse City St. Francis in a consolation game.
