Zeeland East Varsity Baseball traveled to Mona Shores for the OK Green conference opener on Tuesday. The Chix were able to defeat the Sailors by a score of 6-0 in game 1. Ethan Houghtaling pitched a complete game shutout, he allowed only 1 hit and struck out 16.
The Chix scattered 4 hits offensively and took advantage of 5 walks and 2 hit batters to manufacture 6 runs. Aidan Fredericks scored two runs while Sam Cochran and Luke Gruppen each added a stolen base.
Game 2 was suspended due to darkness and will resume on Thursday. Mona Shores is currently leading the game 2-1 in the top of the 5th inning.
