Zeeland East Varsity Baseball opened their season on Tuesday afternoon, hosting Covenant Christian. The Chix came out with energy and put 3-runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning on doubles by Trevor Raade and Charlie Lacny. Zeeland East manufactured two more runs later in the game to take the victory by a score of 5-3.
Trevor Raade recorded the win on the mound, pitching two innings, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out 5 batters. Max Salas added 4 strikeouts of his own in two innings of work, while Jake Meyering had 3 strikeouts in two innings on the mound. The Zeeland East pitchers combined to give up only 4 hits in the game.
Offensively, Raade scored two runs and had two RBI while Austin Keur was on base 3 times (1 hit) and scored a run. Jace Fenlon and Aidan Jaworowski each added a single and a run scored.
The Chix start the year 1-0 and will start the OK Green conference play at Holland when they return from Spring Break.
