Zeeland East traveled to West Ottawa for a non-league double-header on Friday afternoon. The Chix took game 1 by a score of 8-5. Zeeland East used a huge 7-run 6th inning to come back and win. Sophomore Evan Owens recorded his first career varsity win on the mound for the Chix. Owens pitched 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits, while striking out 6. Easton Remick recorded the save.
Offensively, Trevor Raade led the way with 3 hits, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI in the game. Brenston Brown also added two hits and an RBI.
The Chix improved their record to 19-9 on the season.
In Game 2, West Ottawa was leading by a score of 3-1 in the 5th inning when the game was called due to weather in the area.
Connor Tietema started on the mound for Zeeland East, pitching 3 innings and allowing 3 runs on 3 hits, while striking out 4 batters. Aidan Jaworowski hit a double while Max Salas had a single and run scored.
Zeeland East travels to Muskegon to finish up their final league series on Tuesday.
