LAKEWOOD HIGH SCHOOL: 4
Zeeland East varsity baseball opened the 2023 season with a victory over Lakewood. The Chix won the season and home opener by a score of 9-4. The Vikings took an early 2-0 lead in the game in the top of the 3rd inning, but Zeeland East battled right back and capitalized on a few miscues to go up 3-2. The Chix added 6 more runs in the next 3 innings to secure the victory. Easton Remick pitched 3 innings in the no decision allowing 2 runs on 2 hits while striking out 5. Max Salas picked up the win in relief, pitching 2 perfect innings. Connor Tietema finished the final 2 innings striking out 6 batters.
Offensively, Brenston Brown had multiple hits for Zeeland East, including a double. Charlie Lacny had a go ahead RBI single and Austin Keur scored 3 runs.
