Zeeland East completed the series sweep over rival Zeeland West on Thursday afternoon, winning 14-4 in 5 innings. Evan Owens started on the mound for the Chix and pitched 4 innings in the win, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and striking out 3. Noah DeWitt closed the game, throwing one inning and striking out 3.
The game was tied 4-4 going into the bottom of the 4th inning when Trevor Raade broke the game open with a grand slam to gain an 8-4 lead. The Chix then piled on 6 more runs in the bottom of the 5th capped off with another Trevor Raade home run to end the game in a walk off.
Offensively Raade was 3-4 with 2 home runs, 1 double, 6 RBI and 3 runs scored. Austin Keur added two hits, three runs scored and two RBI. Easton Remick also had 3 hits, including a double and 3 runs scored and Charlie Lacny was 2-3 with a double, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Brenston Brown also chipped in with a two RBI double.
Zeeland East improves to 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in the OK Green. The Chix travel to Holland Christian for a single game on Friday.
