The Zeeland East varsity baseball team hosted Holland Christian on Wednesday for their home opener. The Chix defeated the Maroons by a score of 5-1.
Gavin Drooger recorded the win on the mound for Zeeland East. Drooger went 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 6. Noah DeWitt came in for the 2-inning save and faced 7 batters giving up one hit and striking out 3.
Offensively the Chix capitalized off of 4 walks and one hit batter to manufacture 5 runs with some aggressive baserunning. Koby Windeler scored 2 runs in the game while Quincy Thome had a big RBI single in the first inning. Trevor Raade added an RBI and stolen base while Austin Keur also chipped in with a single, stolen base and two walks.
The Chix improve to 3-0 on the season and host Grand Rapids Union on Thursday afternoon.
