The Chix took on Jenison High School Wednesday evening in a district semi-final game. The Chix jumped out to a 14-2 lead to start the first quarter and led 14-8 after the first quarter. The Chix extended their lead to 28-19 at halftime. The Wildcats would not back down and they came storming back in the 3rd quarter, highlighted by a three-quarter court buzzer-beating shot, to trim the Chix lead to one point 37-36. But the Chix responded in the fourth quarter, limiting Jenison to 4 points while scoring 15 to win the game 52-40.
The Chix were led by a balanced attack. Brandon Claerbaut scored 17 points, knocking down three 3-point shots in the game and added 3 assists and 2 block shots. Ethan Houghtaling recorded a double-double, with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Luke Gruppen scored 10 points, while Nate Claerbaut scored 9 points, grabbed 6 boards with 2 block shots.
The Chix record now stands at 16-6 on the season. The next game is scheduled for Friday evening against Hudsonville at 7 pm at Holland High in the district final.
