The long-awaited start to the 2020-21 season began Tuesday night as the Chix traveled to the Dutch Dome to play Holland High School. The Chix won the game 55-33 with all 14 team members seeing game action. The Chix were outstanding on defense tonight, limiting the Dutch to just 2 points in the 3rd quarter and only 33 points for the game while forcing 16 steals and blocking 5 shots.
Offensively, the Chix were led by a balanced attack. Brandon Claerbaut scored 13 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and dished out 2 assists. Nathan Claerbaut scored 12 points, including 3 big dunks, and collected 6 rebounds. Trip Riemersma scored 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds and had 3 steals. Luke Gruppen scored 7 points and while Ethan Houghtaling and Conner Schipper each scored 4 points.
The Chix are back in action on Thursday with their first home game of the season as they host Muskegon Reeths-Puffer. The game time is 7 pm.
