UNITY CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL: 71
The Zeeland East Boys varsity basketball team lost in a non-league matchup to former OK-Green conference opponent, Unity Christian, by a score of 71-52. An experienced Crusaders team was led by Gabe Newhoff with 31 points and 13 rebounds, pushing their record to 5-0.
The Chix were led in scoring by senior Levi Tilden with 15 points (3 3-pointers) and 4 rebounds and senior Conner Schipper with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
After getting off to an early 12-7 lead, the Chix were unable to maintain their momentum as they trailed UC 19-13 after the first quarter. Highlighted by a 10-0 run in the middle of the second quarter, UC took a 43-28 lead into the half.
The Chix fall to 1-2 on the season and will lace up their sneakers, again, on Friday night at home for their first of 14 OK-Green Conference games versus the Dutch of Holland High School. 7pm gametime.
