The Chix traveled to Jenison for their third consecutive road game to open the season and came away with a 60-40 hard-fought victory over the Wildcats on Friday night.  The Chix started quickly behind the hot shooting of Layne Risdon, who knocked down 3 of the Chix 5 first-quarter 3-point makes, and the Chix led 23-8 at the end of the opening period.  The Chix were able to maintain a double-digit throughout the game behind a strong defensive effort and solid offensive play.  All 10 players who dressed tonight played in the game and contributed to the Chix victory.

Individually, the Chix were led by the excellent play of Senior Layne Risdon, who scored 13 of his 22 points in the opening quarter.  Risdon also grabbed 6 rebounds and blocked 4 shots.   Juniors BJ Walker and Eli Walcott had strong all-round games.  Walker scored 11 points, pulled down 5 rebounds, dished out 3 assists and had 3 steals.  Walcott stuffed the stat sheet with 9 points, 6 boards, 3 assists, and 2 steals.  Sophomore Caleb Claerbaut knocked down a couple of 3-point shots for 6 points and added 4 assists and 3 boards while Freshman Will Drnek had a pair of 3-point makes as well for 6 points, along with 4 assists & 3 rebounds.  Junior Mickey Voss added 4 points and 4 rebounds and Freshman Isaiah Boonstra added a bucket.

The Chix open the home portion of their schedule next week Friday, December 15, when the Holland Christian Maroons pay a visit to the Coop.  The Freshmen open up the night at 4 pm, with the JV at 5:30 and Varsity to tip at 7 pm.  Come out and support this exciting brand of Chix basketball.
