Zeeland East in a well played opener defeated the Pioneers of East Grand Rapids by the score of 36-27. Leading the Chix was senior QB Gabe Taylor who was 9-13 passing for 160 yards. Gabe also ran the ball 28 times for 140 yardsand 2 TDs. Junior receiver Ryan Stockdale caught 3 of Gabe's passes for 101 yards and 3 TDs. Joshua Fusco carried the ball 13 times for 65 yards. The defense, which held the Pioneers to 130 yards rushing, was led by senior LB Boone Bonnema with 10 tackles and a blocked extra point, senior Ryan Bellis with 9 tackles ( 3 for losses totaling 23 yards), and junior Brendan Duneghy with 8 tackles and a blocked punt.
Next week Friday, August 31st, the Chix will be home against Detroit Frederick Douglas. Game time is 6:00!!
