Zeeland East boys varsity soccer lost 2-0 against Northview at Northview’s stadium on October 8, 2024. In a game filled with intense action and dramatic moments, Zeeland East kept up with Northview offensively and defensively until the second half. From the first whistle it was clear that both teams were evenly matched. 

The first half was a display of solid defense and strategic play, with Northview only being able to find the back of the net once, making it 0-1 at halftime. East’s goalkeeper, Sr. Clay Fredricks, made several crucial saves, keeping the score down and the team’s hope alive. 

The second half began with renewed vigor from both sides. Northview’s second goal came with 12 minutes left on the clock in the second half. Zeeland East continued to play tough defense while also running the ball constantly. As the final whistle blew, the scoreboard read 0-2 in favor of Northview. 

Coach Lunga was proud of his team’s efforts, saying, “It was physical, I mean we weren't used to that level of physicality but we adjusted, we played well, had a lot of good looks. 2-0, a little favorable for them, but ultimately, we came out, we balled out and it is what it is.” The loss was a tough pill to swallow but the boys gave it their all. Sr. Levi Bannach, forward, said, “We didn’t play as well as we thought we were going to play, we came out here thinking we were going to beat them but now we’re just looking forward to Holland on Thursday.”

They close the season as a 10-5-3 team and look to face Holland in their first post season match.
