HOLLAND HIGH SCHOOL: 4
The freshmen team traveled to Holland High School for their first 2 games of the year on a cool, but sunny Wednesday afternoon. The Chix won both games, winning game one 7 to 4 and winning game two 5 to 3. The Chix pitched well, played great defense, with only 1 error in the doubleheader, and had timely hitting to secure the double header sweep.
In game one, the Chix got out to an early lead, but the Dutch came back to tie it at 4 after 3 innings. In the top of the 5th inning, Luke Gruppen hit a double, that scored 2 runs to help the Chix secure the win. Isaiah Buitenhuis started the game and pitched a strong 2 2/3rd innings. Keenan Faber relieved Buitenhuis and held the Dutch scoreless for the final 2 1/3rd innings to pick up the win. Isaiah Buitenhuis also had a hit and 2 RBI on the game. Keenan Faber scored 2 runs for the Chix.
