Friday night was bigger than just a soccer game between Zeeland East and West Ottawa. The Purple Power game was about honoring and remembering those who battled and defeated cancer as well as those that lost their battle to cancer. The game was also about raising money for the Vand Andel Institute of Cancer Research. On the pitch, Zeeland East opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a solid goal from Sam Putnam, assisted by Kaiya Antrup. West Ottawa was able to equalize in the first half and that's the way the scoring ended, resulting in a 1-1 draw. There was solid play from both teams throughout the night, but neither team could capitalize on their scoring chances in the second half. Zeeland East continues to make steps in the right direction and come together as a unit. When we play with confidence as an entire unit, we are a dangerous team.
