Zeeland East Clinches Lead In Sixth Inning For Victory Over Forest Hills Central

The Chix nabbed the lead late in the game in a 14-9 victory over Forest Hills Central on Thursday in game one of DH. The game was tied at six with the Chix batting in the bottom of the sixth when Maddy Chatman tripled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.

Both offenses were strong at the plate as the Chix collected 18 hits and Forest Hills Central ten in the high-scoring affair

Forest Hills Central took an early lead in the second inning when Gaule drew a walk, scoring one run.  After Forest Hills Central scored one run in the top of the fifth, the Chix answered with one of their own. Forest Hills Central scored when Alyssa Wierenga singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run. The Chix then answered when Madalyn Hickey singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Forest Hills Central scored three runs in the seventh inning. Kylie Halverson and Maya Holser each drove in runs during the inning.

Riley Gruppen earned the win for the Chix. The hurler allowed five hits and five runs over three and a third innings, striking out five. Katie Carlson threw three and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Faith Addington took the loss for Forest Hills Central. The bulldog surrendered 14 runs on 18 hits over six innings, striking out four.

Riley Gruppen had a dinger in the sixth inning.

The Chix had 18 total hits in the game. Katie Carlson, Maddy Chatman, Riley Gruppen, Ali Holman, Aliza Touch, and Jaiden Lee all had multiple hits for Zeeland East.
