Gruppen Strong At The Plate As The Chix Defeat Northview in Game 2

Riley Gruppen collected four hits in four at bats, as the Chix defeated Northview 12-5 on Friday. Gruppen tripled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the fourth, and tripled in the fifth.

The Chix earned the victory despite allowing Northview to score three runs in the third inning.

The Chix took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth inning.

The Chix notched four runs in the fifth inning lead by a triple by Gruppen, a single by Holman, and a fielder's choice by Ella Compagner.

Gruppen was the winning pitcher for Zeeland East. She allowed seven hits and five runs over four innings, striking out eight. Katie Carlson and Madalyn Hickey entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

The Chix racked up 13 hits. Gruppen, Holman, and Madi Esquivel each managed multiple hits for Zeeland East. The Chix defense played solid and didn't commit a single error in the field.
