Greenville Defeats Resilient Zeeland East

Zeeland East fought back after falling down by five runs in the seventh inning. The comeback fell just short though, in an 8-6 defeat to Greenville on Wednesday. Zeeland East scored three runs in the failed comeback on a double by Jaiden Lee, a single by Reese Gruppen, and a single by Mackenzie Ruimveld.

Zeeland East was right in it until Greenville singled in the sixth inning.

Greenville opened up scoring in the first inning, when Looney homered on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Zeeland East notched three runs in the seventh inning. Lee, Gruppen, and Ruimveld all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Moore was in the pitcher's circle for Greenville. The fireballer surrendered six runs on 11 hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking one.

Gruppen led things off in the pitcher's circle for Zeeland East. The bulldog surrendered six runs on nine hits over five and a third innings, striking out three. Madalyn Hickey threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Zeeland East racked up 11 hits on the day. Gruppen, Ashlyn Mendelsohn, Riley Gruppen, and Lee all managed multiple hits for Zeeland East. Lee, Gruppen, Mendelsohn, and Gruppen each managed two hits to lead Zeeland East.

Greenville tallied 13 hits. Thompson, Fare, Moore, Looney, and Lake all had multiple hits for Greenville. Thompson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Greenville in hits.
