Chix Softball Improves to 12-4 With Two Wins Over Reeths-Puffer!

The Zeeland East Varsity Softball team earned two wins against Reeths-Puffer today, winning 9-4 and 10-2!

Zeeland East weathered a scare by Reeths-Puffer in the third inning where they scored four runs, but the Chix still went on to win 9-4 in game one. Zeeland East got things moving in the first inning, when they poured on five runs to take an early 5-0 lead. Reese Gruppen started the game on the mound for Zeeland East. Gruppen lasted two innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out one. Katie Carlson entered in the third inning and was credited with the victory for the Chix. She surrendered zero runs on two hits over five innings, striking out three and walking zero. Zeeland East racked up ten hits in the contest. Jaiden Lee, Mackenzie Ruimveld, and Ella Hathaway each collected multiple hits for the Chix en route to their victory.

Zeeland East picked right back up where they left off, winning game two 10-2.

Reese Gruppen led the Chix to victory in the pitcher's circle. The sophomore surrendered one run on five hits over five innings, striking out three and walking zero. Katie Carlson threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Carlson recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Zeeland East. The Chix opened up scoring in the first inning of the game, scoring one run when Katie Carlson doubled. Zeeland East went on to tally four runs in the sixth inning, lead by singles by Mackenzie Ruimveld and Ella Hathaway, followed by a home run by Megan Kuzma, her seventh on the season.

Zeeland East racked up ten hits in the game. Carlson, Emme Meyering, and Hathaway all managed multiple hits for the Chix. Carlson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Zeeland East in hits. The Chix played well defensively in the contest, not committing a single error.

With the two wins today, the Chix improve to 12-4 on the season! They are back in action tomorrow at Hopkins High School for a doubleheader.
