Zeeland East Wrestling hosted the 2022 Ottawa County Championship this weekend.  East placed three of our eight entered wrestler and crowned another Ottawa County Champion with Gavin Drenten winning the 126 weight class. Parker Williams placed 2nd at 285 and Devin Steggerda placed 3rd at 190.  Gavin pinned his way to the finals beating Levi Minnerick of Spring Lake and Fames Foster of West Ottawa.  In the final Gavin tech-falled (win by 15 points) Julian Segova of Holland in the second period.  With his Championship in hand Gavin has a season record of 11-0.

Parker Williams, like Gavin, also pinned his way to the finals beating Louie Vargo of Grand Haven and Evan Walters of Zeeland West.  In the finals Parker fell to Aaron Holstege of Allendale.  Parker's season record now stands at 10-1.

Devin Steggerda took a different path on the afternoon opening with a win over Eli Hanna of Grand Haven but them falling to Evan Arnold of Coopersville.  Devin then methodically worked his way back through the consolation bracket with a nail-biting match agains Brody Smeyers of Zeeland West with Devin winning 5-4.  Devin then pinned Jacob Millward ot Hudsonville to secure 3rd Place.  

The Zeeland East JV team also competed this weekend at the JV County Championships in Grand Haven. East crowned five (5) JV champions:   Levi Maumann at 144, Jonah Heyboer at 190, CJ Hoegen at 190, Keaton Drager at 215, and Jason Natte at 285.
