Zeeland East won big over Holland in the first game of the Double Header, winning 12-2. Chix got on the board in the first inning with 3 runs. The Chix added 2 more runs in the second inning. Kuzma singles, making the score 5-0. Reese Gruppen earned the win for the Chix on the mound. Lorelei Buikema and Megan Kuzma each collected two hits for the Chix. Jaiden Lee led the team with four walks.
The second game of the DH the Chix pulled out the win with an 11-10 score. The game was tied at nine in the bottom of the sixth when a wild pitch scored one run for the Chix. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Zeeland East went back into the lead after Megan Kuzma singled, Emme Meyering doubled, and Valenzuela singles, each scoring one run.
Reese Gruppen earned the win for the Chix. Valenzuela led the Chix with two runs batted in. Gruppen led the Chix with two hits in three at bats.
Zeeland East goes 1-1 at the ZE Invite.
The Chix fell to Covenant Christian in their first game of the day on Saturday. Zeeland East took the lead in the third inning after Emme Meyering laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run. Covenant Christian scored three in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. Their lead didn’t last long when the Chix regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when they scored four runs. Those four runs came on a Mackenzie Ruimveld double, a Reese Gruppen Double and a Megan Kuzma sacrifice fly. Covenant Christian took the lead in the top of the seventh inning and the Chix were unable to overcome the deficit. Gruppen started the game in the circle for Zeeland East. She went seven innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits, striking out 10 and walking five. The Chix offense was led by Ruimveld, Gruppen and Isa Valenzuela, who each collected two hits in the contest.
In their second game of the day, Zeeland East defeated Forest Hills Central by a score of 18-7. FHC jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning, but the Chix took the lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back. Isa Valenzuela drove in two runs in the inning. Zeeland East scored six more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Megan Kuzma doubled, scoring two runs, an Isa Valenzuela ground out scored two, and a double by Lily Blanton scored one run. RBI singles by Lorelei Buikema and Isa Valenzula added to the lead in the bottom of the third.
Kaylee Redder earned the win for the Chix. Redder surrendered seven runs (five earned) on six hits over five innings. Zeeland East collected 10 hits in the game. Ruimveld and Isa Valenzulea each had two hits. Reese Gruppen led the team with three walks and Jaiden Lee stole two bases in the contest.

Zeeland East swept Muskegon in a pair of games last night by scores of 15-1 and 20-5.
Mackenzie Ruimveld and Lorelei Buikema each drove in four runs to lead the Chix. Ruimveld tripled in the third inning, driving in three runs, and singled in the second inning, scoring another run. Buikema got Zeeland East on the board with a single in the first inning. The Chix scored eight runs in the top of the second inning. The big inning all included hits from Ruimveld, Reese Gruppen, Megan Kuzma, Emme Meyering, Buikema, Jordynn Berens and Isa Valenzuela. The Chix continued on offense in the top of the third where they scored six runs.
Reese Gruppen started in the circle and earned the win for Zeeland East. She gave up one hit over three innings, striking out five and walking none. Buikema, Ruimveld, Meyering, Isa Valenzuela and Kuzma each collected multiple hits for the Chix in the game.
In the second game, Lorelei Buikema drove in four runs on four hits to lead Zeeland East past Muskegon by a score of 20-5. Buikema doubled in the first inning, driving in a run, singled in the third scoring one and hit an inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning. Megan Kuzma also doubled in the first inning, scoring one run. The Chix scored eight runs in the bottom of the second inning. Isa Valenzula doubled, scoring one run, Mackenzie Ruimveld hit a solo inside-the-park home run, Jaiden Lee singled, scoring two runs, Emme Meyering singled, scoring one run, Buikema singled, scoring one run and Isa Valenzuela hit another single, scoring one run. The Chix extended their lead in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles from Buikema and Sophia Pierson. Lara Mierck also collected a hit in the game. The offense continued to roll in the fourth inning, scoring seven runs. Meyering hit an inside-the-park home grand slam in the inning.
Kaylee Redder earned the win for Zeeland East. Redder gave up zero hits and zero runs over two innings. Meyering appeared in relief for the Chix. Zeeland East collected 15 hits in the game, including multiple hits by Meyering, Lee, Isa Valenzuela and Kuzma.

Zeeland East dropped both of their games against Gull Lake High School. The Chix fell by a score of 13-0 in the first game. Jaiden Lee and Mackenzie Ruimveld each collected one hit for the Chix. The second game the Chix fell to the Blue Devils by a score of 11-1. Zeeland East got on the board in the top of the first inning. Gull Lake came back and scored 7 in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead. Megan Kuzma went 2 for 2 at the plate to lead ZE Chix in hits.

Zeeland East dropped both of their games against Zeeland West. The Chix fell by a score of 12-1 in the first game. The Dux scored a run in the top of the first inning. Zeeland East tied the game in the bottom of the first when Megan Kuzma hit a solo home run. Zeeland West took the lead in the top of the third when they scored a run to make it 2-1. The game was close until the Dux scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning to put the game away. Reese Gruppen started in the circle for the Chix. She pitched five innings, allowing eight runs (4 earned) on nine hits and walking one. Kuzma, Jordynn Berens and Gruppen each collected one hit.
Zeeland East lost the second game 15-0.
The Chix play next on Friday against Gull Lake.
Zeeland East dropped a pair of close games to South Christian High School. In the first game of the day, the Chix fell by a score of 10-6. Zeeland East fell behind early, but tied the game in the bottom of the first inning when Emme Meyering tripled, driving in Megan Kuzma, who also had a triple in the inning. The Chix took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to singles by Lorelei Buikema and Isa Valenzuela. South Christian regained the lead in the top of the fifth and held on for the win. Reese Gruppen started in the circle for Zeeland East. She threw seven inning, giving up 10 runs (six earned) on 10 hits, striking out three and walking two. Isa Valenzuela led the Chix offense with two RBIs.
Even though Zeeland East out-hit South Christian, they still fell by a score of 5-3 in the second contest. Megan Kuzma led the Chix with three hits in the game. Kaylee Redder started at pitcher for Zeeland East and pitched four innings, surrendering five runs on seven hits and walking two. Lorelei Buikema, Daveyana Phasavo and Kuzma each drove in one run for the Chix. Jordynn Berens had two walks in the game. Isa Valenzuela had two stolen bases.

Zeeland East lost a pair of games to Wyoming High School. The Chix dropped the first game by a score of 6-2. Wyoming got out to an early lead, scoring 5 runs in the first two innings. Zeeland East refused to give up, only allowing one run for the rest of the game. In the bottom of the seventh, the Chix scored two runs, including one on a solo home run by Emme Meyering. Megan Kuzma also added two hits and scored one run in the contest. Reese Gruppen started in the circle for Zeeland East. She went seven innings, allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out 10 and walking seven.
In the second game, the Chix fell to Wyoming by a score of 11-4, although the game was much closer than the score may indicate. Zeeland East got on the board in the top of the first inning after a Wyoming error, a double by Lorelei Buikema and an Oli Valenzuela single, each scoring one run. Wyoming took the lead in the bottom of the second inning when they scored five runs to take a 5-3 lead. Gruppen started the second game for the Chix, going two innings, giving up five runs on five hits and walking three. Kaylee Redder pitched four innings in relief for Zeeland East, allowing five hits and six runs while striking out three and walking five. Buikema, Oli Valenzuela and Gruppen each drove in one run in the game for the Chix. Isa Valenzuela collected two hits. Jaiden Lee led the team with two walks in the contest. The Zeeland East defense turned one double play with an excellent catch in left field by Isa Valenzuela followed by a strong throw to first with a diving tag by Lorelei Buikema to get the second out.
The Chix will host South Christian on Friday for a double-header at home.
Zeeland East Softball went 1-2 at the Lakeshore Slam Tournament which was held at Ross Park in Norton Shores, MI.
In the first game of the tournament, the Chix faced off against Whitehall High School and came away with a 13-11 victory. The Chix fell behind early in the bottom of the first inning 2-0, but quickly gained control of the game when they scored 11 runs in the top of the second inning. Zeeland East would go on to surrender runs in the third and fourth innings, but also scored runs of their own in those innings to stay ahead. On offense for the Chix, Reese Gruppen, Mackenzie Ruimveld, Isa Valenzuela, Megan Kuzma and Lily Blanton all tallied hits. Jordynn Berens, Oli Valenzuela, Jaiden Lee and Isa Valenzuela all scored multiple runs. Kuzma hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning to extend the lead.
Emme Meyering started the game in the circle for Zeeland East. She pitched two innings, giving up seven runs on four hits while striking out one and walking four. Reese Gruppen came on in relief and pitched two innings, giving up four runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out two and walking none. Gruppen earned the win for the Chix.
In the second game of the day, Zeeland East fell short to Wayland High School by a score of 7-0. The Chix offense struggled to get going in the game. Lily Blanton and Megan Kuzma each had a hit. Reese Gruppen started the game in the circle for Zeeland East. She threw six innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits, while striking out one and walking three.
In the third, and final, game of the day for the Chix, they suffered a 12-0 loss to Oakridge High School. Offensively, Zeeland East struggled to get going. Jaiden Lee and Megan Kuzma each tallied hits. Emme Meyering got the start for the Chix and surrendered five runs on one hit, while walking four. Kaylee Redder came on in relief and pitched four innings, giving up 7 runs (six earned) on five hits while striking out three and walking five.

Zeeland East Softball suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a single game to Holland Christian 16-10.
The Chix got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after scoring on wild pitch and scoring another run when Lorelei Buikema singled. Zeeland East added another run in the third, making the score 3-1. Holland Christian took the lead in the top of the fifth inning when they scored 11 runs on three hits. The Chix battled back and scored runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but the comeback fell short.
Reese Gruppen started the game in the circle for Zeeland East. She went six and two thirds innings, surrendering 13 runs (5 earned) on seven hits, striking out five and walking nine.
Emme Meyering, Megan Kuzma and Gruppen each collected two hits for the Chix. Buikema, Kuzma and Gruppen each drove in one run. Gruppen and Jordynn Berens also added two base on balls each. Kuzma, Gruppen and Lily Blanton all scored multiple runs for Zeeland East.

Zeeland East opens the season with a pair of wins vs. Grand Rapids Union. In the first game, the Chix offense got off to a strong start scoring 15 runs. The Chix gave up one run in the bottom of the first. In the second, the Chix continued their strong effort on offense by scoring 15 more runs in the second and four more in the third and would go on to win, 34-1.
Emme Meyering got the start in the circle for Zeeland East. She earned the win while allowing one run on two hits, while striking out two and walking two. Reese Gruppen pitched one scoreless inning in relief for the Chix. Giving up one hit and striking out one.
Zeeland East collected 11 hits in the game. Gruppen led the way with four RBIs. She went 3-3 in the game, including a double and a triple. Megan Kuzma added a triple of her own in the second inning. Lorelei Buikema and Lily Blanton both hit inside-the-park homeruns for Zeeland East. The Chix collected 23 walks in the game, Oli Valenzuela collected four walks of her own. Jaiden Lee, Meyering, Megan Kuzma and Mackenzie Ruimveld each stole multiple bases in the game. Taylor Keefer also added a hit of her own, along with two walks.
In game two, Grand Rapids Union opened up the scoring in the first after a wild pitch scored one run. Reese Gruppen started game two in the circle for the Chix. She gave up one run on one hit in one inning of work, while striking out four. Kaylee Redder earned the win for Zeeland East as she came in, in relief and pitched two innings. She gave up zero hits and struck out five.
The first inning lead didn’t last long for Grand Rapids Union, as the Chix put up 14 runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning. The Chix added four more runs in the bottom of the second. Zeeland East was led by Gruppen, Jaiden Lee, Meyering, Buikema and Jordynn Berens, all of whom tallied RBIs for the Chix. Kuzma also scored three runs, Ruimveld added two runs of her own and Keefer also added a run for Zeeland East. Emme Meyering hit an inside-the-park homerun for the Chix in the game.
