Boys/Girls Varsity Track at GR Elite Challenge

The track and field teams traveled to Houseman Field in Grand Rapids for the second time this season, this time for the Grand Rapids Elite Challenge. Both teams enjoyed some great performances, especially coming off a challenging week with two other competitions. In the 22 team field, the boys' team finished 9th and the girls' team finished 1st. Chix track and field will head to Muskegon High School on Tuesday for a double dual OK Green showdown with Muskegon and Reeths Puffer.
Notable performances from the GR Elite Challenge:
Allesandro Saccani finished 1st in the open 100m dash (11.46) and 7th in the Elite 400m (51.77). Nick Riemersma finished 5th in the Elite 400m (51.17) and 2nd in high jump (6' 0"). Caden Guffey, Sam Downing, Dylan Walters, Aaiden Gillespie, and Jeffrey DeWitt all set new PRs in the open 1600m run. Dylan Killilea finished 7th in the Elite 110m hurdles (16.22) and led the 4x110m shuttle hurdle relay to a 2nd place finish along with Zeke Hutt, Preston Stema, and Noah Tillman. In shot put, Parker Williams finished 4th (50' 4.5"), Garrett Weeden 6th (48' 11") and Drestin TerHaar 8th (46' 11") while Weeden finished 2nd (163' 1") and Williams 7th (150' 1") in discus. Brady White finished 2nd in long jump with a new PR of 20' 0".
Allie DeLost finished 2nd in the Elite 100m (12.64). The 4x200 relay team of DeLost, Mirra Fenlon, Kat Wilson, and Kamryn Burke finished 7th (1:52.43). Meredith Cook finished 3rd in the Elite 400m (1:01.67) and teamed up with CC Kuras, Emma Drnek, and Ally Kuzma to take 1st in the 4x800m relay (9:59.97). Kuzma also finished 7th in the Elite Mile (5:05.19) and 2nd in the Elite 3200 (11:02.53) and Kuras finished in a tie for 8th in high jump (4' 8"). Brynn Blanton finished 7th in the Elite 100m hurdles with a season best time of 17.54. In throws, Mariah Sackett was 2nd (36' 1.5"), Faith Bonnema 3rd (34' 7.50"), Anna Tilden 6th (33' 2.5"), and Jenna Klein 7th (31' 11") in shot put; in discus, Sackett was 2nd (127' 3") and Anna Tilden was 4th (117' 2"). Rylee Sluiter was 3rd in pole vault (9' 6") and Mirra Fenlon took 2nd (16' 6.5") and Elyse Smith was 7th (15' 2") in long jump.

Boys/Girls Varsity Track vs. Holland & Union

The track and field teams were home last night to take on the teams from both Holland and Grand Rapids Union. Both teams took care of business with the boys defeating Holland 103-33 and Union 122-14 and the girls besting Holland 108-29 and Union 132-4. Both teams are undefeated in the OK Green heading into the showdown against Zeeland West on Thursday.
Some key performances in the meet:
Brady White finished 2nd in the 100 with new PR of 12.07 as did Franklin Huizingh in the 200 (24.01). Sam Downing broke the 5:00 barrier in the 1600 for the first time clocking a 4:58.45. Levi Vanderwerff made his 3200m debut and finished 3rd with a time of 11:34.20. Dylan Killilea won the 110m hurdles with a new PR of 16.28 while Noah Tillman took the victory in the 300m hurdles with a new PR of 43.48. In throws, Max Voss hit new PRs in both Shot Put (36' 2") and Discus (94' 6.75"). Cooper Crane won pole vault with a new PR of 11' 6".
Cece Huizingh made her season debut in the 200 finishing 2nd overall with a time of 28.57. Meredith Cook also made her season debut, this time in the 400, winning the event with a time of 1:01.91. Meg VanDam set new PRs in both the 1600 (6:26.17) and the 800 (2:51.02). In throws, Brylee Selby set new PRs in both Shot Put (30' 4") and Discus (91' 1") as did Libby Post (27' 1" and 61' 0.5"). Both Olivia Grotenhuis and Elyse Smith set new PRs in pole vault (7' 6" and 7' 0", respectively) and Kamryn Burke set a new PR of 14' 4" in long jump to finish 3rd overall.
Boys/Girls Varsity Track at Cougar Invite

The track and field teams traveled to the CAT in Grand Rapids for the Cougar Invite today. With 19 teams competing, the boys' team finished in a tie for 5th (47 points) while the girls' team finished 1st with 98.75 points.
Notable performances for the boys' team were: Nick Riemersma, 2nd place in the 800m (2:01.62), Caden Guffey, 16th place in the 3200m (10:09.44 - a new Sophomore school record), Zeke Hutt, 7th place in the 300m hurdles (44.57), Preston Stema, 8th place in the 300m hurdles (44.64), A. Saccani, G. Wiersma, Hutt, Riemersma, 2nd place in the 4x800m relay (8:27.51), Garrett Weeden, 2nd place in shot put (49' 0.75") and 3rd in discus (139' 11"), Parker Williams, 4th in shot put (46' 9.5") and 2nd in discus (145' 3"), Drestin TerHaar, 7th place shot put (44' 4"), and Cooper Crane, 7th in pole vault (11' 0").
Notable performances for the girls' team were: Allie DeLost, 1st place in 100m (12.80) and 1st place in 200m (26.89), CC Kuras, 3rd place in the 400m (1:03.35), Ally Kuzma, 4th place in the mile (5:15.37) and 2nd place in the 3200m (10:50.86, improving on her school record), Brynn Blanton, 6th in 100m hurdles (18.09), DeLost, Cece Huizingh, Selah Huizenga, Mirra Fenlon, 5th place in 4x200m relay (1:52.43), Mariah Sacket, 1st in shot put (36' 6") and 2nd in discus (116' 3"), Anna Tilden, 2nd in shot put (35' 3.5") and 1st in discus (119' 10"), Faith Bonnema, 6th in shot put (32' 6"), Jenna Klein, 8th in shot put (31' 1.5"), Kallie Taylor, 8th in discus (88' 1"), Payton Heer, 4th in high jump (4' 10"), Rylee Sluiter, tied for 7th in pole vault (8' 6"), and Rachel Miller, 2nd in long jump (15' 10.25").
The track and field program will be back in action Tuesday at home against Grand Rapids Union and Holland.
Boys/Girls Varsity Track at Soderman Relays

The track and field teams traveled to Caledonia for the Soderman Relays this morning and had a solid showing with the boys finishing 5th (52 points) and the girls 2nd (71 points) out of 7 teams.
Medaling for the boys' team were the Shot Put relay (Parker Williams and Garrett Weeden - 1st place), High Jump relay (Nick Riemersma and Bennett Bing - 2nd place), Long Jump relay (Allesandra Saccani and Brady White - 3rd place), Discus Relay (Evan Berghorst and Williams - 3rd place) and 4x400m relay (Saccani, Simon Myers, Dylan Killilea, Mason Villarreal - 3rd place).
Earning medals for the girls' team were the Shot Put relay (Mariah Sackett and Jenna Klein - 1st place), Discus relay (Sackett and Anna Tilden - 1st place), Distance Medley relay (Emma Drnek, Meredith Cook, CC Kuras, Ally Kuzma - 1st place), 4x800m relay (Drnek, Cook, Kuras, Kuzma - 1st place), 4x100m relay (Allie DeLost, Selah Huizenga, Cece Huizingh, Mirra Fenlon - 2nd place), 4x200m relay (DeLost, Payton Heer, Huizingh, Kat Wilson - 3rd place), and Long Jump relay (Elyse Smith and Kamryn Burke - 3rd place). The SMR team of Olivia Grotenhuis, Gracyn Huizenga, Emily Graves, and Lesley Martinez set a new school record in the event as did the DMR team of Drnek, Cook, Kuras, and Kuzma. The DMR team also set a new meet record in the event.
The track and field teams will be back in action Tuesday night at home against Mona Shores in their second OK Green showdown.
Boys/Girls Varsity Track vs. Wyoming

Both the boys and girls track and field teams opened up the OK Green schedule with wins over Wyoming this evening. The boys team won 110-22 and the girls team won 127-9. Both teams will be back in action Saturday for the Soderman Relays in Caledonia.
