FOREST HILLS CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL: 1
Zeeland, Mi - The #4 ranked Zeeland Varsity Water Polo Team defeated Forest Hills last night 9-1 to improve their season record to 8-3 (3-0 Conference). The team defense was on par for the entire game, led by goalie Morgan Beers who smashed her previous career record by making 19 saves. Madi Duquette was the team leader in steals with 3 and Rylie Toth added 2 Field Blocks.
While the defense was carrying them, Zeeland struggled on offense, leading 1-0 after the 1st on a goal from Jenna Schrotenboer. Claire Meeuwsen added a much needed boost with a fast break goal followed by another Schrotenboer goal to push the lead to 3-0 at the half.
After halftime, Zeeland finally got their offense going with 3 goals in the 3rd and 3 in the 4th to finish out the game. Schrotenboer scored 3 more (5 total), Rylie Toth had 2, and Peyton Elenbaas added the other. Toth also chipped in with 2 assists.
"Our defense has been really good to start the season. Morgan (Beers) and Rylie (Toth) are great to have as a last line of defense and it really helps to build our confidence elsewhere. Tonight, Jenna scored 5 times, but lookign a little further into it, her teammates really set her up nicely. Sarah (Houtman) really battled down low and helped to open up the rest of the game." -Coach Dave Vruggink
Next Up: Zeeland travels to Jenison to take on the top three teams (#1 Hudsonville, #2 Grandville, #3 Rockford) Friday and Saturday
