Zeeland Dominates Portage 18-3 in First Victory of Season

Zeeland dominated Portage 18-3 for their first victory of the season. Zeeland was in control for the entire match. Zeeland took a 11-1 lead going into the half with 8 girls scoring in the first half. Entering the third half Zeeland stayed strong with an extra 5 goals putting them in a comfortable position for the 4th quarter. Zeeland finished strong adding 2 final goals to end the game.
βI thought it was very fun and I'm glad we got to do it as a team,β said Fr. Aynslee McKenney.
βIt was our first win of the season, and I'm really happy because we got everybody on the team to get at least one goal,β said Head Coach Zac Geschwendt.
Zeeland Girls Water Polo falls to Hudsonville 2-18

Zeeland Girls Water Polo fell to Hudsonville 2-18. Zeeland started and ended the match slow struggling to score. Zeeland managed to score early in the match on a shot from Sr. Ava Levandoski. Entering the 2nd quarter they scored again but came to a halt offensively. The 2nd half was no different, entering the new half down 2-10, Zeeland struggled to get hot and were shutout in the 2nd half. βWe played well but I felt like we needed to move around a bit more.β said Jr. Arianna Hamacher. βThey are a very good team, we struggled to move the ball around, but we fought especially after losing our goalie in the 3rd quarter,β Said Head Coach Zac Geschwendt.
Zeeland Girls Water Polo falls to East Kentwood 12-6

Zeeland East girls water polo took the loss against East Kentwood 12-6. Zeeland East started the game down in the first quarter led by goalie Sr. Emily Pyle βWe knew this would be a close game going into it and we played really well.β said Pyle.
The Chix held their ground and pulled their deficit closer trailing only down one entering halftime. Entering the second half the Chix started to lose traction and would eventually fall to the Falcons. βWe played a really competitive game, probably the best this season in terms of doing the little things right,β said Coach Zac Geschwendt on the loss.
Girls Varsity Water Polo Falls Short to Bulldogs

The combined Zeeland East and West girls varsity water polo team faced the Grand Haven Bulldogs on April 17th at 6:15 in Bulldog territory. The girls fought through the first two quarters to hold the Bulldogs under 16 points at half time. Head Coach Zac Geschwendt said, βWe are a very young team this year and I think that was the first game that we played where we looked complete across the board.β
The girls worked as a team to continue fighting through the second half, but fell short ending the game 10-22. Geschwendt mentioned, βWe didn't win the game but we played really well. It's a really good team so I was happy with how we played and how we are progressing.β Soph. Elise Linn stated, βI think the game went really well and we all interacted more and our chemistry has gotten way better even just over the first six games which is impressive for all of our new players and our brand new team.β The girls kept their heads high as they head into next week facing East Kentwood on Tuesday and Hudsonville on Thursday both at home.
