GRANDVILLE HIGH SCHOOL: 6
Zeeland, Mich - The #4 ranked Zeeland Women's Water Polo team took on #2 ranked Grandville on Wednesday night in their Conference and District showdown and beat the Bulldogs 7-6. It was a back and forth battle with neither team leading by more than 2 and that didn't happen until the 4th quarter. Rylie Toth and Jenna Schrotenboer each scored twice for Zeeland while Madi Duquette, Katie Agar, and Sarah Houtman each added 1. Duquette led the team with 2 assists while Toth made 3 Field Blocks. Morgan Beers was once again stellar in goal by making 10 saves and adding a huge assist to Schrotenboer who got loose on a fast break.
The win raised Zeeland's record to 10-5 overall and 4-1 in the Conference. All 5 losses were against the top three teams in the State.
The game was tied after half at 3, and after Grandville scored to go up 4-3, Zeeland answered with 2 of their own and never relinquished the lead.
"That was a big game for us. We played a little flat last night in the 2nd and 3rd against Rockford, so for us to come out in the 3rd like we did tonight spoke volumes on the level that these young women are playing. Every single girl had a shining moment in this game, especially the 6 seniors." Coach Dave Vruggink
Zeeland is done playing for the week, but will complete the trifecta against the top 3 teams in the State when they play Hudsonville on Tuesday on the road.
