Rockford, Mich - The #3 ranked Zeeland Women's Water Polo team traveled to Rockford this weekend to play in the Rams Invite. Zeeland went 2-2 overall on the weekend. Friday, Zeeland struggled to find the net on offense to help with their exceptional defense and fell to #1 Hudsonville 1-6 and #7 ranked Ann Arbor Huron 3-6. Zeeland got back to their winning ways on Saturday with victories over East Kentwood 8-1 and East Grand Rapids 7-4.
Goalie Morgan Beers had another fantastic weekend with 37 saves (17 goals allowed), 2 steals, 2 assists and also scored her 4th goal of the year. Offensively, the team spread around the scoring with Madi Duquette, Peyton Elenbaas, and Jenna Schrotenboer each scoring 3. In total, 10 different players found the back of the net. Rylie Toth helped with distributing the ball with 3 assists.
Defensively, Toth led the team with 11 steals followed closely behind by Duquette with 10. Toth also made 5 Field Blocks and Schrotenboer drew a team high 5 exclusions.
"We were playing really tired on Friday. We talked a little bit after the Huron game and put the focus on having fun on Saturday. The gurls responded magnificently and came back with some really good 'dad jokes' to tell. I am very proud on how they responded as a team." Coach Dave Vruggink
Next up is the post season District Tournament hosted by East Grand Rapids. Zeeland (17-10) earned a first round bye and will play the winner of the Grandville-Grand Haven game on Saturday morning at 11:45
