ZE Wrestling Advances Three to Individual State

Zeeland East Wrestling advanced three (3) wrestlers to Individual States at todays Regional hosted by Allendale. Gavin Drenton placed third (3) at 112 pounds. Gavin started the day of pinning Keegan Archer-Sutfin of Hastings in 1:41. Gavin lost then lost to eventual champion Jackson Blum of Lowell by pin at 3:16. Gavin plowed his way through the consolation rounds pinning Landon Demorest of Cedar Springs in 2:36 punching his official ticket to State. Gavin rounded out the day pinning Ethan Goodwin of Hamilton at 3:00. Gavin brings a season record of 41-7 to State.
Noah Ledford finished in second (2nd) place at 145. Noah began the morning tech-falling Mason Denton of Hastings 15-0 at 3:33. Noah then went on to beat Nate Cleaver of Lowell 7-2 to reach the finals. The finals featured a rematch of last weeks finals against Max Brown of Whitehall. Brown got the better end of the match this time beating Noah 11-7. Noah brings a season record of 32-4 to State
Marty Landes finished in second (2nd) place at 152. Marty began his morning pinning Dustin Loomans of Wayland at 2:49. Marty then tech-falled Darnell Mack of Whitehall 18-2 at 4:18. In the finals Marty squared off against his friend and club practice partner losing 10-2. Marty brings a season record of 45-2 to State.
Devin Steggerda (189) and Parker Williams (215) had solid days as well working all the way to the blood-round before being knocked from the tournament.

Zeeland East Wrestling began the individual post-season schedule at Whitehall on Saturday placing five (5) wrestlers into Regionals next week. District Champions for East were Noah Ledford (145) and Marty Landes (152). Noah secured his district championship and improved his season record to 30-3 while defeating Whitehall's Max Brown, a defending D3 State Champion and currently ranked No 1 in the State by michigangrappler.com, 5-2 in the finals. Marty defeated Alec Pruett of Whitehall, a returning State Placer, 7 to 6 moving his record to 43-1 on the season. Gavin Drenten (112) took second place, losing to Jack Guerrero in the final 6-4 on a last minute turn by Guerrero. Devin Steggerda took third (3rd ) place over Bradyn VanPatten of Whitehall. Parker Williams also placed 3rd defeating Ryan Morren of Allendale by pin in the first period avenging an earlier loss on the day. All five (5) wrestlers advance to next weeks Regionals at Allendale.

Zeeland East Wrestling finished in 3rd Place at the OK Green Conference Tournament this weekend. Ten (10) East wrestlers placed with Gavin Drenten (112) and Marty Landes (152) as Conference Champions. Gavin, in his first Conference tournament appearance, pinned his way through the tournament pinning Joshua Keller of Holland in 50 seconds in the finals. Marty, a now three-time Conference Champion, also dominated his way through the bracket pinning Sage Secrest of Reeths Puffer in 53 seconds in the finals. Finishing in Second Place for East were Tommy Le (103), Noah Ledford (145), and Parker Williams (215). Third place finishers were Gavin Maurer (130), Dominik Mackety (135), and Atari Kuras (285). Fourth place finishers were Bernard Voss (119) and Devin Steggerda (189).

Zeeland East wrestling lost to host Reeths Puffer 52 to 29 but rebounded by defeating Orchardview 50 to 30. Undefeated for the night were Gavin Drenten (112), Noah Ledford (145), Marty Landes (152), and Parker Williams (215). East is back on the mats Friday night at Reeths Puffer for the Conference Championship Tournament.

Zeeland East Wrestling lost to Holland 30-51 and then defeated Unity Christian 68-7. Undefeated for East were Gavin Drenton (112), Alex Dewitt (140), Noah Ledford (145), and Marty Landes (152). The regular season is winding down with East active again on Saturday at Kelloggsville and then wrapping up the regular season next Wednesday at Reeths Puffer.

Zeeland East Wrestling traveled to Fruitport to square off against Muskegon and Fruitport. Zeeland East beat Muskegon 54-30 and then had a close dual against Fruitport. After some confusion at the end of the match against Fruitport and following evaluation of the NFHSA and MHSAA rules, Zeeland East defeated Fruitport by te-breaking criteria "A." Undefeated on the night were Gavin Drenten, Dominik Mackety, Noah Ledford, Marty Landes, and Parker Williams. A busy week for East Wrestling continues on Wednesday at Coopersville against Holland and Hudsonville Unity Christian.

Zeeland East hosted Zeeland West and West Catholic tonight. Zeeland East beat Zeeland West 51 to 18 and retains the Bird Belt for another year. East then went on to defeat West Catholic 57-22. Noah Ledford (145) secured his 100th career win in his win versus Zeeland West. Undefeated on the night for East were Gavin Drenten (112), Levi Boumann (125), Noah Ledford (145), Marty Landes (152), Devin Steggerda (189), Parker Williams (215), and Atari Kuras (285).

East wrestling battling injury and illness finished 1-4 as a team on the day falling to Cedar Springs, Coopersville, Schoolcraft, and host Battle Creek Central. East defeated Pennfield. Undefeated (5-0) on the day for East was Gavin Drenten (112) and Marty Landes (152). East returns to the mats at home on Wednesday for the Battle for the Bird Belt against Zeeland West.

Zeeland East Wrestling was at Hamilton tonight versus Coopersville and host Hamilton. East Wrestling lost to Coopersville 30 to 51 and then fell to host Hamilton 10 to 70. Undefeated for the night for East were Marty Landes (152) and Gavin Drenten (112). In one of the more exciting matches for the night, Gavin avenged an earlier season loss by defeating Ethan Goodwin of Hamilton (a returning State Qualifer) 15 to 2. East returns to the mats at Battle Creek Central this weekend.

Zeeland East Wrestling traveled to Ionia for the Mike Adamson Invitational today. East finished in 3rd overall of 10 total teams. Champions, and finishing 5-0 on the day, for East were Noah Ledford (145), Marty Landes (152), and Devin Steggerda (189). Gavin Drenton (112) finished in 3rd place and Parker Williams finished in 4th place. East returns to the mat on next Wednesday at home versus Muskegon and Fruitport.

Gavin Drenten finished the day in 3rd Place for East battling back after falling to the eventual 112 pound champion from Allendale.
