The Chix battled it out last night in the district finals against West Ottawa. It was a hard fought match ending with a 2-3 loss. Scores were: 11-25, 28-26, 22-25, 25-22, 14-16. The Chix ended the season with a record of 23-10. They finished 2nd in the OK-Black conference. They graduated 4 wonderful seniors that have meant the world to the team: Paityn Burke, Mirra Fenlon, Caroline Baker and Reese Feltman. We couldn't be more proud of this group of 13 that continued to work hard and grow throughout the season.

Sr. Reese Feltman played a crucial role in the team's dominating senior night victory over Holland with 2 digs for the night. After the win she stated, “ I think that the game went really well. We came out super strong in the first set but our energy slowly died. I’m proud of our team for figuring out how to win the match and change our energy during the game. This overall was a great night of volleyball and a great senior night victory!”

After the Chix's big win, coach Sara Mulder stated, “I’m proud of the girls for finishing the game strong. This game definitely showed that we need to continue to work on some stuff as we get to post-season play. But it was very fun to honor our seniors tonight. I’m really proud of the group as a whole. Everyone stepped up and played well.”

They also celebrated our 4 awesome seniors: Mirra Fenlon, Paityn Burke, Caroline Baker, and Reese Feltman, along with honoring our supportive parents as well.

Zeeland East girls Varsity volleyball swept their rivals, the Zeeland West Dux, on their home court yesterday, October 8, 2024, in a heated rivalry match, 3 sets to 0.

In a dominating win over the Dux, Jr. Mahilia Vis commented on their win stating, “I think that we did really well. Despite something being a little off, we still got the job done and beat the Dux!” Jr. Mahalia Vis played a big role in Chix's win over the Dux with 6 digs and 4 aces. 

After a hard-fought battle against the team's biggest rival, Coach Sara Mulder stated, “An East versus West game always brings a ton of emotions and nerves in a good way. I think that we came out and remained mentally stable throughout the whole match despite not playing our best volleyball. We found ways to make things work and stayed aggressive through it all and came out with the win!”

The Freshman squad also competed at the Grand Haven Tournament yesterday. They ended up finishing 5-1 on the day and earning a 2nd place finish in the gold bracket! They had wins in pool play over Grand Rapids Christian, Unity Christian and Fremont. And then in bracket play they beat Zeeland West and Reeths Puffer, before losing a battle with Hudsonville in the finals. Awesome job, girls!

In a hard-fought battle on Tuesday, September 24 at home the Varsity Chix volleyball team fell short to the undefeated Unity Christian Crusaders in a 1-3 match loss.

Throughout the entire match Jr. Elyse Smith put up some phenomenal sets for her hitters, and even after her team took a loss she said “I feel like as a team we played very well. That was obviously the toughest team in our conference as of now, and I feel like we definitely played to our full potential. I do think we could work on having a little more urgency and grit, and really wanting the ball because a lot of the time we do want the ball but not bad enough so that might be where we fell though.” 

Some game highlights were the 10 kills that came from Soph. Lizzy Risdon who had been set up by Smith from some of her 27 assists.

Even though the Chix anticipated tough competition and wanted a chance to win this match, the Crusaders fought harder. After the competitive game, Coach Sarah Mulder stated, “I think they’re a really good team that played high-level volleyball. I think that showed us our weaknesses in terms of just being able to hit around a big block since they’re powerful at the net, so I think hitting around a block and making sure we’re covering. Also, we need to work on defensively anticipating and reading more.”

Chix Volleyball beats Holland Christian 3-1 at Zeeland East

In a four-set match, Zeeland East Girls' Volleyball earned a huge 3-1 win over Holland Christian yesterday, September 17. 

Jr. Jordan Inosencio scored the winning point in the fourth set with a monster serve that never made it back to East’s side. After the match, she stated “I just wanted to win for my team, and we worked so hard in the first two sets. It motivated me to not give up, and I wanted to keep fighting for my team.”

After the big win for the Chix, coach Sara Mulder stated, “I really think that it came down to mental toughness at the end. The girls hung in there and I think that they accepted the challenge. They knew that they could do it. They stayed composed at the end, and that allowed us to play our game. Overall I’m just really proud of the girls and how they came together and stayed mentally tough.”

East had won the first set 25-20, and the second set 25-22. Holland Christian won the third set 16-25 but the Chix were able to close out the match with a final set 27-25 victory.
