CHIX SOFTBALL WINS OUTRIGHT OK GREEN CONFERENCE TITLE!

ZEELAND EAST SOFTBALL CLINCHES OUTRIGHT OK GREEN CONFERENCE TITLE! In Head Coach Miranda Robbins' first season with the Chix, the team clinched the OK Green outright conference championship with two wins against Wyoming High School. The Chix needed one win in their doubleheader to clinch the outright conference title, and they did so in dramatic fashion. In game one Zeeland East defeated Wyoming 6-4 on Tuesday after scoring five runs in the top of the 7th inning, taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at four with The Chix batting in the top of the seventh when Ella Hathaway singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs to take the lead. Zeeland East initially got things started in the first inning. Katie Carlson hit a solo homer. Reese Gruppen started the game for The Chix. She allowed four hits and two runs over two and a third innings, striking out two and walking one. Katie Carlson came on in relief and pitched Zeeland East to victory. She went four and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on nine hits, striking out four and walking one. The Chix tallied eight hits in the game. Hathaway and Carlson managed multiple hits for Zeeland East. Following their emotional win in game one, the Chix followed it up with a strong performance in game two. Katie Carlson wasted no opportunities at the plate, driving in six runs on four doubles to lead the Chix past Wyoming 9-3. Carlson drove in runs on a double in the first, a double in the third, a double in the fifth, and a double in the sixth. After allowing two runs in the top of the first, Zeeland East tied things up at two in the bottom of the inning. Jaiden Lee drove in one when Lee singled. The Chix pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. In the third Carlson doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run and Emme Meyering singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Zeeland East notched three runs in the sixth inning. The Chix's big bats were led by Carlson and Ella Hathaway, who each had RBIs in the inning. Reese Gruppen started and earned the win in the circle for Zeeland East. She threw a complete game, lasting seven innings, allowing 14 hits and three runs while striking out two. Zeeland East Chix Varsity tallied nine hits on the day. Carlson and Megan Kuzma each had multiple hits for the Chix.

ZEELAND EAST SOFTBALL CLINCHES OUTRIGHT OK GREEN CONFERENCE TITLE! Zeeland East Softball Wins Coopersville Invitational! The Chix defeated Coopersville in the Championship Game 6-4 after defeating Hopkins and tying with Cedar Springs earlier in the day. In their first game of the day, Zeeland East got out to an early lead but went on to tie Cedar Springs 6-6. The Chix put up three runs in the third inning. Zeeland East's big inning was driven by a triple by Emme Meyering and a single by Ella Hathaway. The Chix racked up nine hits in the game. Megan Kuzma, Hathaway, and Carlson all managed multiple hits for Zeeland East. After a short break the Chix were back in action against Hopkins High School for their second game of the day. They went on to win 8-3 and put themselves in the championship game. Reese Gruppen started in the circle for the Chix and earned the win. She surrendered two runs on four hits over five innings, striking out one and walking zero. Katie Carlson threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Carlson recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Zeeland East. The Chix hit one home run in the game. Emme Meyering had a dinger in the fourth inning. Zeeland East tallied 11 hits. Meyering, Mackenzie Ruimveld, Lorelei Buikema, Ella Hathaway, and Gruppen all managed multiple hits for the Chix. In the Championship Game, an early lead helped Zeeland East defeat Coopersville 6-4 on Saturday. The Chix got the scoring started on a single by Jaiden Lee in the first inning and a single by Reese Gruppen in the second inning. Coopersville scored three runs in the fifth inning, but Zeeland East still managed to pull out the victory. Gruppen led the Chix to victory in the pitcher's circle. Gruppen lasted four innings, allowing four hits and one run while walking one. Katie Carlson threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Carlson recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Zeeland East. The Chix tallied 13 hits on the day. Gruppen, Lee, Megan Kuzma, and Isa Valenzuela each racked up multiple hits for Zeeland East. Emme Meyering also had a home run in the third inning, her second of the day.  
Chix Softball Takes Two Against Thornapple-Kellogg

Zeeland East Softball won both of their games today against Thornapple-Kellogg. They won the first game 12-6 and the second game 8-1. The Chix took game one thanks to a strong start. Zeeland East scored on a single by Emme Meyering, a walk by Megan Kuzma, and a single by Reese Gruppen in the second inning. The Chix put the game away for good with five runs in the sixth inning. Zeeland East's big bats in the inning were led by walks by Katie Carlson and Lily Blanton, a single by Gruppen, and another by Isa Valenzuela. The Chix racked up eight hits in the game. Meyering and Gruppen each had multiple hits for Zeeland East. Gruppen took the win in the circle for the Chix. She threw a complete game, lasting seven innings, allowing nine hits and six runs while striking out two and walking one. Zeeland East got out to another early lead in the second game and went on to win 8-1. The Chix got on the board in the first inning when Katie Carlson doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. Later on, Zeeland East tallied three runs in the sixth inning. Megan Kuzma and Reese Gruppen each had RBIs in the big inning. Zeeland East had nine total hits in the game. Kuzma, Lily Blanton, Gruppen, and Carlson each racked up multiple hits for the Chix. Carlson got the win in the circle for the Chix. She threw a complete game, lasting seven innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out six and walking zero. With the two wins today Zeeland East improves to 19-5 on the season! They are back in action on Tuesday, May 16th for SENIOR NIGHT against Grand Rapids Union.

Zeeland East had no trouble on offense today, winning big over Mona Shores 16-4 and 18-2 in their doubleheader. The Chix launched SIX home runs in the two games, including three by freshman Megan Kuzma. The Chix opened up scoring early when Kuzma hit a leadoff home run to start the game. Reese Gruppen started the game for Zeeland East. She went two innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out one. Katie Carlson was the winning pitcher for the Chix. She came on in relief and went five innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out seven and walking one. Zeeland East's offense tallied five runs in the seventh inning to put the game away for good. The big inning was lead by RBI singles by Kuzma and Reese Gruppen and then a home run by Katie Carlson. The Chix hit four home runs in the game. Kuzma put another one out in the second inning to go along with her leadoff homer. Emme Meyering hit one deep in the third inning. Zeeland East collected 16 hits in the contest. Kuzma, Ella Hathaway, Carlson, Meyering, and Gruppen all managed multiple hits for the Chix. The offensive onslaught continued in game two as Zeeland East won 18-2 in three innings. The Chix opened up the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single by Katie Carlson, followed by a run on an error and an RBI single by Emme Meyering. Zeeland East continued to pour it on, scoring six runs in the second inning and nine runs in the third. The Chix hit two home runs in the game. Meyering hit a grand slam in the second inning to give the Chix a big lead, her second home run on the day. Megan Kuzma hit a walkoff 3-run homer in the third inning to end the game, her third of the day! Zeeland East tallied 13 hits in the game. Mackenzie Ruimveld, Ella Hathaway, Carlson, Kuzma and Meyering all had multiple hits to lead the Chix. Reese Gruppen started again in the circle for Zeeland East. Throwing one inning, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out one. Katie Carlson came on in relief and picked up the win for the Chix. She threw two perfect innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out two and walking none. With the two wins today Zeeland East improves to 17-5 on the season! They are back in action this Friday for a non-conference doubleheader with Thornapple Kellogg. 
Chix Softball Wins ZE Invite!

Zeeland East Softball wins the ZE Invite with victories over Holland Christian and Covenant Christian! In the first game, Zeeland East won on a walk-off in the bottom of the 7th inning against Holland Christian. The final score was 5-4. The Chix scored on a single by Ella Hathaway in the first inning, an error in the second inning, and a single by Megan Kuzma in the second inning. Followed by a home run in the third inning by Katie Carlson and eventually the walk-off run was scored by Carlson. Reese Gruppen started the game for Zeeland East. She went two innings, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out one and walking zero. Katie Carlson entered in the third and pitched the remainder of the game for the Chix. She went five innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out five and walking zero. Zeeland East racked up seven hits in the game. Kuzma, Isa Valenzuela, and Carlson each racked up multiple hits for the Chix en route to victory. It was a milestone game for Katie Carlson. With her solo home run in the third inning, she SET THE NEW ZEELAND EAST SOFTBALL SINGLE SEASON (10) AND CAREER TOTAL HOME RUN (21) RECORD!   In the Championship Game, Reese Gruppen didn't allow a single run against Covenant Christian, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Zeeland East to a 17-0 victory. The Chix fired up the offense early, scoring 8 runs in the first inning. Followed by more runs in every inning of the contest. In a game where everyone contributed, Zeeland East racked up 17 hits. Jaiden Lee, Katie Carlson, Megan Kuzma, and Lorelei Buikema all had multiple hits for the Chix. Carlson and Lee had three hits to lead the team. With the two wins today, the Chix improve to 15-5 on the season. They are back in action on Tuesday, May 9th with a doubleheader at Mona Shores.
Chix Softball Splits With Hopkins

Zeeland East split their doubleheader with Hopkins today, dropping game one, 5-1, but then bouncing back strong and winning game two, 11-0. In game one, Zeeland East fired up the offense in the first inning, when an error scored one run. But that was pretty much it for the Chix offense as that was their only run of the game. Reese Gruppen took the loss in the circle for Zeeland East. Gruppen surrendered five runs on eight hits over six innings, striking out two and walking zero. Gruppen, Ella Hathaway, Emme Meyering, Mackenzie Ruimveld, and Katie Carlson each collected one hit for the Chix in the contest. In game two, Zeeland East's Katie Carlson threw a complete game shutout, not allowing a single run against Hopkins en route to an 11-0 victory. She allowed two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out four and walking one. The Chix secured the victory partly in thanks to six runs in the third inning. Zeeland East's offense in the inning was led by Carlson, Ella Hathaway, Jaiden Lee, Emme Meyering, and Lorelei Buikema, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. The Chix collected 12 hits on the day. Meyering, Buikema, Hathaway, and Carlson each racked up multiple hits for Zeeland East. Meyering led the Chix with three hits in three at bats. With the split today the Chix are now 13-5 on the season. They will be back in action at home this Saturday, hosting their annual ZE Invite.
Chix Softball Improves to 12-4 With Two Wins Over Reeths-Puffer!

The Zeeland East Varsity Softball team earned two wins against Reeths-Puffer today, winning 9-4 and 10-2! Zeeland East weathered a scare by Reeths-Puffer in the third inning where they scored four runs, but the Chix still went on to win 9-4 in game one. Zeeland East got things moving in the first inning, when they poured on five runs to take an early 5-0 lead. Reese Gruppen started the game on the mound for Zeeland East. Gruppen lasted two innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out one. Katie Carlson entered in the third inning and was credited with the victory for the Chix. She surrendered zero runs on two hits over five innings, striking out three and walking zero. Zeeland East racked up ten hits in the contest. Jaiden Lee, Mackenzie Ruimveld, and Ella Hathaway each collected multiple hits for the Chix en route to their victory. Zeeland East picked right back up where they left off, winning game two 10-2. Reese Gruppen led the Chix to victory in the pitcher's circle. The sophomore surrendered one run on five hits over five innings, striking out three and walking zero. Katie Carlson threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Carlson recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Zeeland East. The Chix opened up scoring in the first inning of the game, scoring one run when Katie Carlson doubled. Zeeland East went on to tally four runs in the sixth inning, lead by singles by Mackenzie Ruimveld and Ella Hathaway, followed by a home run by Megan Kuzma, her seventh on the season. Zeeland East racked up ten hits in the game. Carlson, Emme Meyering, and Hathaway all managed multiple hits for the Chix. Carlson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Zeeland East in hits. The Chix played well defensively in the contest, not committing a single error. With the two wins today, the Chix improve to 12-4 on the season! They are back in action tomorrow at Hopkins High School for a doubleheader.

Zeeland East Softball wins 15-0 and 15-2 against Holland High School. Katie Carlson shut down Holland, throwing a complete game shutout and leading the Chix to a 15-0 victory on Tuesday. Zeeland East secured the victory thanks to 12 runs in the first inning. The Chix big bats were led by Reese Gruppen, Carlson, Emme Meyering, Isa Valenzuela, Megan Kuzma, and Gruppen, all driving in runs in the frame. Zeeland East opened up scoring in the first inning, when Gruppen doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Carlson took the win on the mound for The Chix. She went four innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out nine and walking zero. Zeeland East tallied eight hits in the game. Zeeland East didn't commit a single error in the field en route to their win. In game two, Zeeland East played well on their way to a 15-2 victory. The Chix opened up the scoring in the first inning, scoring one run when Katie Carlson tripled. Later on, The Chix put up four runs in the fifth inning. The inning was started with a walk by Jaiden Lee and then a home run by Emme Meyering. Reese Gruppen pitched Zeeland East to victory. The pitcher went five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out five and walking zero. The Chix hit two home runs in the game. Megan Kuzma went for the long ball in the third inning to go along with Meyering's home run in the fifth. Zeeland East tallied nine hits in the contest. Meyering, Kuzma, Isa Valenzuela, and Carlson each collected multiple hits for The Chix. With the two wins today, the Chix improve to 10-4 on the year! Next up on the schedule is a double-header away at Reeths-Puffer on Tuesday, May 2nd.
Chix Softball Wins Both Against Allendale

Zeeland East took game one 12-4 and won the second game 7-4 in extra innings! In the first game, Megan Kuzma didn't feel much like getting out on Thursday, tallying four hits and leading Zeeland East to a 12-4 win over Allendale. Kuzma singled in the first, homered in the second, homered in the fifth, and doubled in the sixth. Zeeland East opened up scoring in the first inning, when Isa Valenzuela singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. The Chix smacked four home runs on the day. Katie Carlson had a dinger in the second and fourth innings to go along with Kuzma's two home runs. Zeeland East saw the ball well today, racking up 17 hits in the game. Kuzma, Ella Hathaway, Carlson, Emme Meyering, and Mackenzie Ruimveld all managed multiple hits. Katie Carlson got the start on the mound for Zeeland East. Carlson threw a complete game, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out three and walking one. In the second game, Zeeland East snagged a late lead in extra innings and defeated Allendale 7-4. The game was tied at three with The Chix batting in the top of the eighth when Katie Carlson homered on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs. Zeeland East got behind early in the contest 3-0. The Chix evened things up at three in the top of the fifth inning. Carlson was on the rubber again for game two. She threw another complete game, throwing all eight innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out 12 and walking one. Zeeland East tallied ten hits in the contest. Emme Meyering, Isa Valenzuela, Mackenzie Ruimveld, Lorelei Buikema, and Carlson each collected multiple hits for the Chix. With the two wins today, the Chix improve to 8-4 on the season! Next up is a double header at home against Holland next Tuesday, Apritl 25th.

Chix win first game 15-0 in 3 innings. Katie Carlson threw a perfect game on the mound for Zeeland East. Carlson also tallied three hits, including a triple and two home runs. Megan Kuzma and Emme Meyering also had two home runs piece for the Chix in the game. Isa Valenzuela, Lorelei Buikema and Jaiden Lee each had two hits in the contest. Mackenzie Ruimveld and Ella Hathaway also tallied hits for the Chix.  Katie Carlson threw a another perfect game to lead Zeeland East past Muskegon 21 -0 in game two of the double-header. Zeeland East tallied three home runs on the day. Carlson had a dinger in the second inning. Ella Hathaway had a long ball in the first inning. Emme Meyering put one out in the first inning. The Chix saw the ball well today, racking up 19 hits in the game. Carlson, Meyering, Megan Kuzma, Hathaway, Isa Valenzuela, and Jaiden Lee each collected multiple hits for Zeeland East. Carlson went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Chix in hits. Zeeland East didn't commit a single error in the field. Hathaway had the most chances in the field with seven.

Zeeland East Chix Varsity defeated Whitehall 16-1. The Chix launched two home runs on the day. Carlson went yard in the second inning. Meyering had a long ball in the second inning. Zeeland East racked up 17 hits on the day. Buikema, Carlson, Meyering, Jaiden Lee, Megan Kuzma, Valenzuela, and Ella Hathaway all collected multiple hits for the Chix. Carlson and Buikema all had three hits to lead Zeeland East.   Zeeland East Chix Varsity fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 9-0 loss to Wayland.   Zeeland East defeated Allendale 7-6 on Saturday thanks to a walk-off. The Chix launched one home run on the day. Kuzma had a dinger in the sixth inning.Zeeland East tallied 12 hits on the day. Lorelei Buikema, Kuzma, Hathaway, and Carlson each racked up multiple hits for Zeeland East. Buikema went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Chix in hits.
