Boys Varsity Baseball vs. Holland Christian High School

Zeeland East varsity baseball defeated Holland Christian in the district semifinal by a score of 6-4 and then fell to Hamilton in the district final on Saturday by a score of 8-7.   In game one vs. Holland Christian, Zeeland East relief pitcher Easton Remick recorded the win.  Easton replaced starter Max Salas who pitched 5 innings and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits.  Remick pitced a perfect final two innings to secure the victory. Offensively, Jace Fenlon led the Chix with two hits and 3 RBI in the game.  Max Salas added a double, while Brenston Brown, Charlie Lacny and Trevor Raade all added RBI's. In the district final, Zeeland East jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning, scoring 6 runs on 4 hits and taking advantage of 3 walks.  Hamilton answered back with 5 runs of their own in the bottom half and tied the game with 1 run in the 3rd inning.  Both teams added a run in the 4th inning locking the game at 7-7 going into the 5th.  Hamilton capitalized on a sac fly after a triple to take the lead 8-7 and holding on for the win. Easton Remick recorded the loss in relief allowing 1 run in 2 an 2/3 innings.  Starter Trevor Raade went 3 and 1/3 innings allowing 7 runs on 6 hits. Offensively the Chix were led by senior Noah Ledford who had two hits and two RBI in the game.  Charlie Lacny and Trevor Raade each also added two hits in the game. The Chix end their season with a 25-13-1 record.

Zeeland East lost a non league game to Jenison on Tuesday by a score of 11-7.  Easton Remick takes the loss on the mound in relief for Zeeland East.  The Chix committed 6 errors on defense allowing only 3 earned runs in the game.  Max Salas, Trevor Raade, Remick and Nick Williams combined to strike out 13 batters and only allow 5 hits. Offensively, Zeeland East tallied 10 hits in the game.  Easton Remick, Brenston Brown, Aidan Jaworowski and Jace Fenlon each had two hits in the game.  Remick, Fenlon, and Austin Keur all added doubles.

Zeeland East swept a double-header from East Kentwood on Friday night at Davenport University by scores of 14-3 and 15-1. Trevor Raade recorded the win in game 1.  Raade threw 4 innings, allowing 3 hits and 4 runs (0 earned) while striking out 5.  Connor Tietema was solid in relief, throwing 3 innings, allowing 1 hit and not surrendering a run, while striking out 2 batters. Offensively, Zeeland East tallied 16 hits.  Charlie Lacny led the Chix with 4 hits, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI.  Austin Keur, Easton Remick, Trevor Raade, Brenston Brown, Max Cochran and Jace Fenlon all had two hits in the game.  Brenston Brown added a double, while Max Cochran had 3 RBI and Raade had 2 RBI. In Game 2, the Chix picked up right where they left off, tallying 16 more hits in the game.  Trevor Raade, Aidan Jaworowski and Lukas Assa each had two hits in the game while Chistopher Seay was 4 for 4 with two doubles. Brenston Brown, Noah Ledford, Assa and Jaworowski all added doubles, while Tommy Farnum had a triple. Easton Remick recorded the win on the mound, pitching 4 innings and allowing one run on two hits while striking out 8.  Lukas Assa finished the final three innings in relief, allowing two hits, no runs and striking out 4 batters. Zeeland East improves to 24-10-1 on the season.

Win: 10 - 0
Zeeland East completed their OK Green regular season on Thursday with a sweep of Muskegon.  The final score was 10-0 (5 innings).  Jake Meyering recorded the win on the mound, pitching a complete game shutout.  Meyering allowed 1 hit and struck out 12 batters in the game. Offensively, Noah Ledford and Lukas Assa both had two hits including a triple each.  They both also scored two runs and had an RBI.  Dylan Kenyon chipped in with two hits, including a double, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Zeeland East ends up 3rd in the OK Green with a 14-7 league record, behind Mona Shores (20-1) and Reeths Puffer (17-4).  Overall, Zeeland East improves to 22-10-1 on the season.

Zeeland East hosted Calvin Christian on Wednesday for non-conference single game.  The game ended after 7 innings due to rain, with the score tied at 3. Max Salas takes a no-decision in the game for Zeeland East.  Salas pitched 5 and 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits, while striking out 9 batters.  Nick Williams came in and finished the final 1 and 1/3 innings, not surrendereing a hit and striking out 2 batters. Offensively, Trevor Raade had a double, two walks and a run scored.  Max Salas also added a hit and two hit by pitches in the game. Zeeland East hosts Muskegon on Thursday to finish the OK-Green conference schedule.

Zeeland East traveled to Muskegon for an OK Green double-header on Tuesday afternoon.  The Chix defeated the Big Reds by scores of 19-0 (3 innings) and 24-0 (3 innings).   Zeeland East used 6 pitchers in the two games, none allowing a hit and combining for 16 strikeouts.   The Chix also had 8 doubles and 2 triples amongst their 33 hits in the two games.   Zeeland East improves their record to 21-10 on the season and 13-7 in the OK Green.  This also marks the 7th season in a row where Zeeland East has won at least 21 games.  The Chix host Calvin Christian on Wednesday for a single game.

Zeeland East traveled to West Ottawa for a non-league double-header on Friday afternoon.  The Chix took game 1 by a score of 8-5.  Zeeland East used a huge 7-run 6th inning to come back and win.  Sophomore Evan Owens recorded his first career varsity win on the mound for the Chix.  Owens pitched 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits, while striking out 6.  Easton Remick recorded the save. Offensively, Trevor Raade led the way with 3 hits, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI in the game.  Brenston Brown also added two hits and an RBI. The Chix improved their record to 19-9 on the season. In Game 2, West Ottawa was leading by a score of 3-1 in the 5th inning when the game was called due to weather in the area. Connor Tietema started on the mound for Zeeland East, pitching 3 innings and allowing 3 runs on 3 hits, while striking out 4 batters.  Aidan Jaworowski hit a double while Max Salas had a single and run scored. Zeeland East travels to Muskegon to finish up their final league series on Tuesday.

Zeeland East finished a continuation game against Zeeland West on Thursday, defeating the Dux on an 11th inning walk off hit by pitch to win 5-4. Trevor Raade records the win for Zeeland East.  Raade took the mound to begin the 8th inning and held the Dux scoreless through the 11th.  In the 4 innings of work, Raade struck out 5 and didn't allow a hit.   Offensively, Max Cochran and Jace Fenlon each had multiple hits in the game.  In the 11th inning the Chix took advantage of a Max Salas lead off walk, and a Dux error on a sac bunt on the next play.  After Zeeland West intentionally loaded the bases to set up a force, Austin Keur was hit by a pitch for an RBI to win the game. In game 3 of the series, Zeeland West won on a walk-off passed ball in the bottom of the 8th inning to win by a score of 6-5.  Raade continued his work on the mound pitching 3 scoreless innings before Zeeland West finally struck for 2 runs in the 4th innings.  Jake Meyering and Nick Williams pitched in relief for Zeeland East.  Brenston Brown, Austin Keur and Max Cochran each had two hits in the game for Zeeland East.  Max Cochran had a solo home-run in the 4th inning to give the Chix and early 2-0 lead.   Zeeland West bounced back and scored 3 runs in the 4th inning and two more in the 6th to take a 5-2 lead into the top of the 7th.  Zeeland East responded with doubles by Austin Keur and Charlie Lacny to tie the game at 5.  In the bottom of the 8th inning Zeeland West loaded the bases on a single and two walks with two outs before a wild pitch allowed the winning run to score. Zeeland East moves to 18-9 on the season and travel to West Ottawa on Friday for a double-header.

Zeeland East hosted Zeeland West for an OK Green double-header on Tuesday.  In game one, Zeeland West came out with the victory, defeating the Chix 7-0.  Josh Agar was dominant for the Dux, striking out 13 and allowing 6 hits and zero runs. Zeeland East starting pitcher, Easton Remick records the loss, allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits, while striking out 7 in three innings of work.  Nick Williams and Lukas Assa were both solid in relief. Offensively, Zeeland East was led by Trevor Raade and Noah Ledford who each had two hits in the game, while Max Salas added a double. Game 2 is tied 4-4 through 7 innings of play and will be finished on Thursday prior to playing game 3.

Zeeland East traveled to Holland Christian for a non-league single game on Friday afternoon, the Chix defeated the Maroons by a score of 11-7. Holland Christian jumped out to an early 7-1 lead through 3 innings after scoring 5 runs with no outs in the first inning.  Zeeland East answered to tie the game at 7 after a big 6-run 4th inning.  Zeeland East tallied two more in each the 5th and 6th inning to secure the victory. Jake Meyering records the win on the mound for Zeeland East.  Meyering pitched 7 full innings of relief after coming in to the game in the first inning.  Meyering allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 5. Offensively the Chix were led by Trevor Raade who had 3 hits (one triple), two runs scored and two RBI.  Austin Keur and Noah Ledford each chipped in with two hits while Brenston Brown added a 2 RBI double.  Jace Fenlon and Aidan Jaworowski each scored 3 runs in the game. Zeeland East improves to 17-7 on the year and host Zeeland West for a double-header on Tuesday.

Zeeland East varsity baseball completed the 3-game sweep of Wyoming on Thursday, winning by a score of 11-2. Trevor Raade recorded the win for Zeeland East, pitching 5 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, while striking out 11.  Nick Williams finished the final two innings allowing no runs, 1 hit and striking out 4. Offensively, Trevor Raade, Max Salas and Easton Remick all had multiple hits in the game.  Raade had two doubles, two runs scored and two rbi, while Remick and Salas also both had doubles, 1 RBI and two runs scored. Zeeland East improves their record to 16-7 and 10-5 in the OK Green.

Zeeland East finished the three game sweep of Grand Rapids Union on Wednesday after being postponed due to weather last week.  Zeeland East jumped on top early scoring 5 runs in the top of the first inning and then adding three more in both the second and third inning to win 11-1. Jake Meyering started on the mound for Zeeland East and records the win, going 2 innings, striking out 4 and allowing no hits.  Connor Tietema was solid in relief, throwing 3 innings and allowing only one hit while striking out two batters. Offensively, the Chix were led by Charlie Lacny (2 hits, 1 double, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored) and Max Cochran (2 hits).  Brenston Brown also added a double. Zeeland East improves their record to 15-7 on the season and 9-5 in the OK Green.  They travel to Wyoming to finish up a 3-game series on Thursday.

Zeeland East hosted Wyoming for an OK Green double-header on Tuesday, winning by scores of 11-1 and 10-1. Easton Remick recorded the win in game 1, pitching 3 innings, striking out 6 batters and allowing no runs on no hits.  Lukas Assa pitched the final two innings, striking out two and allowing 1 run on 1 hit. Offensively, the Chix were led by Austin Keur and Easton Remick who both had multiple hits in the game and each scored 2 runs. Trevor Raade also added a triple. In game 2, Max Salas pitched a complete game, striking out 7 batters and allowing only one run on two hits in the game. Offensively, Austin Keur had two hits, one double and two runs scored.  Noah Ledford also added two hits, including a double and two runs scored.  Tommy Farnum had an RBI double, while Jake Meyering added and RBI triple. Zeeland East improves to 14-7 overall and 8-5 in the OK Green.  They travel to Sullivan Field to make up a game against Grand Rapids Union on Wednesday.

Zeeland East hosted their annual varsity baseball tournament on Saturday with Caledonia, Forest Hills Northern and Unity Christian. In game one Zeeland East defeated Unity Christian by a score of 4-0 behind a Trevor Raade no-hitter.  Raade went all 7 innings, striking out 8 batters, walking 3 and hitting one.  Raade also picked off three runners in the game.   Offensively, Zeeland East was led by Easton Remick who had two hits in the game, two stolen bases, and a run scored.  Max Salas added an RBI single while Austin Keur added a hit, stolen base and run scored.  Charlie Lacny also added a two RBI double. On the other field Forest Hills Northern defeated Caledonia 2-1. In the championship game, Forest Hills Northern defeated Zeeland East by a score of 4-3.  Zeeland East took a late lead in the game 3-2 on a Noah Ledford squeeze, but FHN rallied back for two runs in the top of the 7th inning to secure the victory.  Aidan Fredricks, Nick Williams and Jake Meyering all pitched solid in the game, combining to allow only 4 hits.   Offensively, Easton Remick had a double, while Charlie Lacny had a single and run scored.  Noah Ledford added an RBI single to take the lead late in the game. In the consolation game Unity Christian defeated Caledonia 9-2.

Zeeland East varsity baseball hosted Grand Rapids Union for a conference doubleheader on Thursday.  The Chix were victorious in both games with scores of 15-0 (4 innings) and 11-0 (5 innings). In game 1 Easton Remick pitched the win for Zeeland East.  Remick hurled 2 and 1/3 innings, striking out 7, allowing 2 walks and no hits.  Jake Meyering pitched the final 1 and 2/3 innings striking out 5 and allowing 1 hit. Offensively, Max Salas and Trevor Raade each had two hits and two runs scored while Aidan Fredricks scored 3 runs in the game. In game two Max Salas pitched 4 scoreless innings, striking out 5 batters and allowing 2 hits.  Charlie Lacny pitched one inning of relief striking out 3 batters to finish the game. Aidan Jaworoski had 3 hits in the game, including a double, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI.  Jace Fenlon added 3 hits and Aidan Fredicks had two hits, one double and 3 RBI. Zeeland East improves their record to 11-6 on the season and 6-5 in the OK Green.  The Chix travel to Hamilton for a single game on Friday afternoon.

Zeeland East traveled to beautiful DeWitt field at Cornerstone University on Friday night for a double-header against Whitehall.  The Chix won both games with scores of 8-1 and 1-0. Aidan Fredricks recorded the win in game 1, pitching 4 innings and allowing 1 run while striking out 4 batters.  Offensively, Aidan Fredricks, Easton Remick and Trevor Raade all hit doubles. In game 2, Lukas Assa pitched a complete game shutout.  Assa went 5 innings, striking out 8 batters.  Brenston Brown hit a double and Austin Keur scored the winning run in the bottom of the 5th inning on a deep Aidan Jaworowski fly ball. The Chix improved to 9-5 on the year.

Zeeland East was swept by OK Green leaders, Mona Shores, on Thursday losing 14-2 and 6-3 in double-header action. Game one was tight in the 5th inning of play with the Chix trailing 4-2 before Mona Shores tallied 10 runs in the final two innings to break the game open.  Trevor Raade started on the mound for Zeeland East but was knocked out of the game by a line drive in the 4th inning.  Raade pitched 3 and 2/3 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on only 3 hits, 4 walks and striking out 4 batters. Offensively Raade led the Chix going 2 for 2 with a single, homerun, rbi and run scored.  Brenston Brown and Aidan Fredricks also added two hits, with Brown adding an RBI. In game two Easton Remick recorded the loss for the Chix, pitching 4 and 1/3 innings, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits while walking 4 and striking out 4.   Offensively, Zeeland East was led by Sophomores Max Salas and Charlie Lacny who each had two hits in the game, while Sophomore Brenston Brown added another RBI single and Sophomore Austin Keur scored two runs. Zeeland East travels to Cornerstone University for double-header action on Friday night against Whitehall.

Zeeland East was defeated by Mona Shores on Tuesday night by a score of 5-2.  Mona Shores star pitcher Jaxon Huffman pitched 6 and 2/3 innings for the Sailors, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 11 Chix batters. Jake Meyering pitched a solid 6 innings for Zeeland East, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits while striking out 2 in the great effort. Offensively Zeeland East sophomore Max Salas had all 3 hits in the ballgame.  Salas and Lukas Assa each scored a run. The second game of the double-header was moved to Thursday due to bitter cold temperatures.

Zeeland East varsity baseball won the Sand Creek invitational on Saturday defeating Concord 12-0 and Sand Creek 16-6. Max Salas recorded the win in game 1, pitching 3 innings, allowing 1 hit, no runs and striking out 5. Brenston Brown was 3-3 with three doubles in the game. Lukas Assa was the winning pitcher in game 2, throwing 3 innings and allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 6.  Aidan Fredricks had 3 hits while Charlie Lacny had 2, including a 2-run home run. Zeeland East improves to 7-2 on the year and hosts Muskegon Mona Shores for a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Zeeland East varsity baseball traveled to Muskegon Reeths-Puffer on Thursday for an OK-Green double-header.  Game 1 was back and fourth with huge lead swings, but Reeths-Puffer scored two runs in the top of the 7th inning to defeat the Chix 14-13. After getting down 8-2 early in the game, Zeeland East tallied 9 runs in the 4th inning to take an 11-8 lead.  Reeths-Pufer jumped back on top 12-11 with 4 runs of their own in the top of the 5th.  The Chix then took a 13-12 lead after 6 innings before Reeths-Puffer capitalized with two of their own in the 7th for the win.  Jake Meyering takes the loss on the mound in a solid relief effort. Zeeland East tallied 16 hits in the game with Easton Remick leading the way with 3.  Charlie Lacny, Max Salas, Lukas Assa, Austin Keur, Brenston Brown, Aidan Jaworowski and Trevor Raade each added two.  Raade, Brown and Remick each added doubles. In Game 2, the Chix bounced back winning 5-3.  Easton Remick pitched the complete game (5-inning) allowing 3 runs while striking out 6 in the win.  Zeeland East tallied 10 more hits in the second game with Brenston Brown, Noah Ledford and Max Salas each added multiple hits in the game.  Brenston Brown, Trevor Raade and Noah Ledford each added doubles. The Chix improve to 5-2 on the season and 4-2 in the OK Green.

Zeeland East varsity baseball hosted Reeths-Puffer on Wednesday for an OK Green matchup.  Zeeland East jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning, and 4-2 after two innings of play, but could not hold on from there.  The Chix made 7 errors in the game allowing Reeths Puffer to take a 10-4 lead into the 4th inning.  Zeeland East rallied back scoring 4 runs to make the game 10-8 going into the 5th inning, but could not hold on as Reeths-Puffer tallied 9 runs in the top of the 5th for the win. Aidan Fredricks started on the mound for the Chix and records the loss.  Fredricks pitched 2 and 1/3 innings allowing 10 runs, 3 earned on 6 hits.  Nick Williams and Garrett Barense both relieved to finish the game. Offensively, Zeeland East was led by Easton Remick who tallied two hits and an RBI.  Aidan Jaworowski added a two RBI single while Max Salas and Austin Keur each scored two runs.  Noah Ledford added a double. Zeeland East will travel to Reeths-Puffer on Thursday for a double header to finish the series.

Zeeland East varsity baseball completed the 3-game OK Green conference sweep of Holland on Thursday afternoon.  The Chix finished a continuation game from Tuesday winning 15-4 and then won the final game 15-2 (5 innings).   Easton Remick recorded the win in the continuation game, pitching a complete game.  Remick struck out 9 batters in 6 innings of work, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits.  Offensively, Zeeland East was led by Austin Keur who tallied 3 hits in the game including a double, two stolen bases and a run scored.  Brenston Brown also added three hits and three RBI while Max Cochran had two hits and a double.  Easton Remick and Aidan Jaworowski also both added doubles in the game.  The Chix talled 13 total hits in the game. In the second game Jake Meyering pitched a complete game (5-innings) in the win for Zeeland East.  Meyring allowed 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 6.  Offensively the Chix again exploded with 13 hits led by Brenston Brown who had two doubles and 5 RBI in the contest.  Max Salas and Aidan Fredricks also had multiple hits in the game. The Chix improve their record to 4-0 and 3-0 in the OK Green Conference.

Zeeland East varsity baseball traveled to Holland on Tuesday night to begin OK Green conference play.  In game 1, Zeeland East came out victorious with a 2-1 score in 10 innings. Trevor Raade started on the mound for the Chix, allowing one hit in five innings and striking out 8 batters in the no-decision.  The lone Dutch run (unearned) came in the first inning on two Chixerrors.  Max Salas records the win in relief, pitching 5 innings, striking out 9 and not allowing a hit. Offensively Zeeland East was led by Charlie Lacnywho had three hits in the game and scored the go-ahead run in the 10th innings.  Austin Keur was on base 4 times in the game, while Aidan Jaworoskiadded two hit, including a double.  Lukas Assadrove in the winning run on a single in the 10th inning. In game two the Chix are leading 6-3 in the bottom of the second inning, but will be resumed on Thursday due to darkness.

Zeeland East Varsity Baseball opened their season on Tuesday afternoon, hosting Covenant Christian.  The Chix came out with energy and put 3-runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning on doubles by Trevor Raade and Charlie Lacny.  Zeeland East manufactured two more runs later in the game to take the victory by a score of 5-3.   Trevor Raade recorded the win on the mound, pitching two innings, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out 5 batters.  Max Salas added 4 strikeouts of his own in two innings of work, while Jake Meyering had 3 strikeouts in two innings on the mound.  The Zeeland East pitchers combined to give up only 4 hits in the game. Offensively, Raade scored two runs and had two RBI while Austin Keur was on base 3 times (1 hit) and scored a run.  Jace Fenlon and Aidan Jaworowski each added a single and a run scored. The Chix start the year 1-0 and will start the OK Green conference play at Holland when they return from Spring Break.
